Sheridan has no time for anger or regret. She often says that life is moving forward, not looking back, that is why our eyes are in the front of our head, not buried in hair on the back of our skull. She often felt, when dealing with her mother’s anxieties and her father’s absences, that she was the grownup in the relationship. After you have read the way her father and mother treated each other, you might rethink your own relationships.Sheridan has captured the essence of being a child with humour and pathos.Enjoy the ride. It’s a rollercoaster!

Sheridan and her husband have lived for forty years at the same address in The Sutherland Shire, a district in Sydney, Australia.

For the first twenty years of her life, Sheridan lived at Dolans Bay, also in The Shire.

She found ways to cope with her fragile mother who was slowly and spectacularly going around the bend.

Yet, despite her unpredictable and controlling nature, Sheridan managed to make loyal friends and live a relativity normal life.

Sheridan shines a bright light on how differently we, as a society, now react to a child in crisis. The 1950s and early 1960s have always been portrayed as ‘The Good Ol Days’ and on reading this book you just might rethink that ‘idyllic’ time.
