This tale is the ripping yarn of a young boy who had the desire to become successful driven initially by the desire for money and the ambition to become successful at everything he did. Never satisfied with his position in life, he was always looking for that step up the ladder, the constant quest for promotion and betterment. Slightly younger than the likes of Richard Branson and Alan Sugar, and certainly not as wealthy, but the author had that same drive and determination. Read the book and perhaps you will agree.

Martin Hignell was born in Wandsworth, London. At the age of five, his father moved the family to Fleet, in Hampshire, to begin a new job, eventually becoming the landlord of the Queen’s Head Public House in the Domesday-quoted village of Dogmersfield. The author left the village and joined the Cunard Line on the QE2 at the age of just 15. He spent his life living and working all around the world. Eventually, after 60 years, returning to where he started in the London Borough of Wandsworth, where he now lives overlooking the picturesque Richmond Park.

I enjoyed the yarn to the point l almost read the whole book in one go. In some ways very reminiscent of my own years back in the 70s. Fascinating insight into the world of life on the QE2. Here lies a young man who grew up very quickly. I was slightly overwhelmed by his stories of passion, almost with a hint of envy. The lads DNA highlighted his ambition for money, prosperity and a better position in life, something that seems to be missing in this day and age in places. Hoping there will be a follow up with further yarns about his transition to becoming a MD in the engineering world and probably more stories of his antics, if you know what l mean.
