When Fred Roll, Windy B’s favourite baker, opened his bedroom window very early one bitterly cold January morning, he knew things were not as they should be. A short while later, an unexpected visitor arrived through the heavy snow and gave Fred a challenge he certainly was not expecting. For Fred, his wife Heidi, and everybody living in wonderful Bumble Bay, the snow adventures that followed would be talked about for many years to come.

John Barnett has been making up stories all his life: for his own children at home, for children around the world as a language teacher, and during hospital visits, where the children have truly inspired him.

Alice Jamieson creates worlds through illustrations that are inspired by her love of the planet and the places she enjoys visiting. This is the fifth Windy B book that John and Alice have created together and they have lots more Windy B stories to share in the future.

I was drawn to the book as a seasonal gift for my grandchildren. I enjoyed reading it with them, they all enjoyed the tale and loved the illustrations.

I was delighted to learn that a new story has come out about life in the seaside town of Windy Bumbleston. The old characters are back - the ones we love and the one we hate. There's more deliciousness - Heidi's chocolate fountain and Fred's fresh morning loaves - some Oh nooooo moments, lots of good humour and a very surprising ending. I certainly didn't see that coming. The last line of the book suggests that there's more ahead for the inhabitants of Windy B. Here's looking forward to Book 3.

'Windy B - The Snow Race' is a fantastic sequel to 'Windy B - The Christmas Lights'. The combination of John Barnett's beautiful and captivating words and Alice Jameson's wonderful illustrations are simply irresistible. I would highly recommend this book to young and old alike!

John Barnett's new book is the perfect story for a family with small kids at Christmas. The attempts of our hero to win the snow race, and the beautiful snowflake trophy which is its prize, generate plenty of excitement and laughter, and there is a delightful surprise ending. Adults will love reading this story aloud as much as the children will enjoy hearing it. And the pictures bring the setting, the characters and sights alive. On the way we get to appreciate the beautiful small seaside town and its lively close knit community. As warming as a cup of hot chocolate and a hug from grandpa!
