Glen Green
Glen Green was a troubled youth, on a pathway of destruction driven by hate and unforgiveness, growing up in a neighbourhood where running from the police was the norm. He was expelled from school, and unable to let go of the past, he was on a runaway train heading toward a dark future.
Glen shifted from a life defined by anger and distrust of authority to being a Policeman, and to eventually becoming one of New Zealand’s most respected police officers and community leaders. He was awarded the Queen’s Medal for my work with youth in New Zealand and was subsequently appointed (MNZOM), a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
As an Auckland-based Pakeha writer who grew up alongside Māori and Pacific Island communities, those experiences heavily inspire the authentic cultural textures of his narrative.
This is part memoir, part personal transformation, and part social commentary. The Balance of Light is set against the backdrop of Aotearoa New Zealand—a nation grappling with systemic inequality, racial division, poverty, and the growing influence of gang culture.
