Book Description

Step into a London where history and happy hour collide, usually somewhere between King’s Cross and your next well-earned pint. This book is your cheeky companion to the city’s rich tapestry of scandal, spirits (both boozy and ghostly), and pub culture so legendary it practically deserves its own blue plaque.Wander cobblestone streets that have soaked up centuries of spilled drinks (and more than a few secrets), then duck into dimly lit taverns where the only thing stronger than the history is the whiskey. Whether you’re a trivia junkie, a history nerd, a pub aficionado, or simply someone who believes all great stories start with, “So, I was at the pub…,” this book has your name on it.Uncover the weird and wonderful history of London’s quirkiest watering holes, swap eerie ghost stories over a round, and fill your brain with enough historical titbits to impress even the surliest of bartenders. This isn’t just a book; it’s your passport to a city where every pint comes with a plot twist, every Tube stop hides a tale, and every shadow might just be something more than a trick of the light. So grab your mates, plan your route, mind the gap, and brace yourself for an adventure packed with laughter, libations, and just a little learning (but don’t worry, there’s beer to help with that). The night is young, and the spirits, of all kinds, are waiting!

Cyril is a retired London firefighter, who at now works for Transport for London, advising on aspects of safety. He is married to Jackie and together they have three grown-up children, Georgina, Anne-Marie and Spencer. At the time of writing they have one Grandson, Coray.

Cyril has a passion for trivia and entertaining, and loves socialising. In his past, Cyril used to manage public houses prior to his service in the London Fire Brigade, and this book is a combination of his life and passions.
