When I reached 78 I began to write about how it feels getting older and how I am trying to cope. I shared my rhymes and they were well received and so I was encouraged to keep writing and I did!
I’ve had so much fun writing them and sharing them with groups of pensioners locally. I’ve met so many lovely people and we always have plenty of laughter and chat because they feel just the same!

Joyce Warrell was born in Reading in 1941. She enjoyed a long career in teaching. There followed a happy and busy retirement with her husband, Geoff. They have enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
At 78, she began to write about her life as a pensioner and how it feels. She is still writing and, encouraged by friends, family and pensioner groups, she is now daring to publish.
The author has produced a brilliant collection of funny and thought provoking poems reflecting on everyday life. A book of poems for, not just the older generation, but all ages. A highly recommended read!

I love this book! The cover is so bright and cheerful and leads you into Joyce’s funny and heartwarming poems. Perfect to dip into again and again, after reading it through. I definitely recommend this, Joyce has such a gift for writing.
Joyce's light hearted poems echo so many aspects of everyday life and how it affects our thoughts and feelings as we grow older. They are a joy to read and reflect very much on how I feel now that I am getting somewhat old and forgetful. Reading them on a dark rainy afternoon, they bring some sunshine and laughter to lighten the day. I would recommend these delightful, easy to read poems to everyone.

This book is funny, thought provoking and full of wise words to help us see the amusing side of the ageing process, as well as its irritations. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the poems and the book title sums it up beautifully; sooner or later we are 'all in the same boat'!
Joyce's sense of humour, wit and vitality make this complete collection of her poems a pleasure to read. She combats our problems as we grow older by encouraging us to recognize and laugh at our moments of frustration, forgetfulness and battles with technology, and showing us also moments of delight and reflectiveness she shows us that in spite of old age we still feel at times that there can be joy in living.
