Book Description

A memoir of the Plowright family, raised in Great Britain.

From rags to riches,

From tragedy to hope.

The author tells a story of seven children torn asunder from their loved ones, charting a journey from an impoverished upbringing to a life in Australia where hard work brought great rewards.

Michael Plowright’s book is a reflection of his childhood in England and Wales, and adulthood in Australia. He was born in Chipping, Lancashire, in 1947, the third born son of John and Dorothy. With his brother John, he migrated to Australia in 1968 to reunite with their father following the sale of the family farm in West Wales. Michael lives with his wife Shirley at Narrikup in Western Australia and they have five children.
