Book Description

The gentle coupling of childhood nostalgia and every parent’s wish for their little treasures. A simple yet captivating narrative for both the child and the reader alike.

Dear Maggie began merely as a very sporadically written poem, which transformed into letters from the author to her young daughter throughout a period of immense ‘mum-guilt’. Having just relocated with her tiny family to the vibrant metropolis of Dubai from the laid-back coast of South Australia with a five-month-old baby in tow, Maggie’s mum soon came to realise that this transition brought with it many waves of emotion. Whilst still adjusting to this new life as a full-time mum (for now), there was a notable absence of both friends and family – the ‘village’, as they say. Mum and Dad began to wonder if the decision they had made for their family was the right one – hello, mum-guilt on new levels!

Whilst the desire to captivate and inspire little ones with this poetic piece prevails, Dear Maggie also serves, with careful intention, as a touching reminder to the reader (namely, the parents) that regardless of your location, how many toys they have, your financial status, or indeed who you have around you, every child is a magical blank canvas waiting to be decorated by life in all its true colours. That vulnerability, the wondrous discoveries, and the two-way unconditional love all remain constant. So too does the wish of every parent for their child: to experience life with the purest of joy in the simplest, most naturally beautiful ways.

Jennifer Rose is a 34-year-old trained accountant, aspiring writer and mum of one who was born and raised in the southside of Glasgow, Scotland. Displaying early signs of ambition, Jennifer graduated with a BA (Hons) in Accountancy from Glasgow Caledonian University at the tender age of 21. A year later, Jennifer and her now fiancé embarked on a lengthy journey which saw them settle amongst the vines in the very beautiful south coast of Adelaide, Australia. Ten years later they had two babies (one fur, one human) and had built their dream home! When Maggie was just five months old, work commitments saw them relocate to the vibrant metropolis that is Dubai. Amidst the new role of being a full-time Mum, Jennifer began to find solace in putting pen to paper… and the rest, they say, is history!
