Stephen Curran-Haffner has over 20 years’ experience in early years education. He studied at University College Cork, where he now works and teaches on the Early Years degree programme. Stephen lives in the fishing village of Baltimore with his family and Fritz.

This is the first book in a series featuring Fritz, a loveable Jack Russell who is rescued from an evil puppy farm and adopted by the Haffners. The author writes in simple language to explain the different emotions Fritz experiences as he explores his new environment. Fritz makes new friends with Regina, the fox, and Rosie, the older dog, who teach him that the giants, a little girl named Victoria, and her Oma are his new family. Beautifully illustrated by Sara Baker, this book tells a wonderfully uplifting story about adapting to changing circumstances and making new friends. My six-year-old grandson loved it. His favourite character was Regina, but that might well change when we read the next instalment in this wonderful series.

A beautiful, comforting story and the perfect companion for children facing big changes while navigating new surroundings! The character of Fritz is incredibly relatable, and the book does a brilliant job of showing that it’s completely okay to feel scared or overwhelmed by big changes. The setting of Baltimore is charming, and the storyline keeps children completely engaged while subtly teaching emotional resilience. Fritz’s journey into his new home is filled with pure emotion that children can easily mirror and learn from. The illustrations by Sara are so creative, captivating & beautiful. I know the author personally and am thrilled to see his early years expertise shine through so clearly on every page. It’s an essential addition to any child's bookshelf, especially those dealing with unfamiliar environments. A fantastic read-aloud story for the whole family to enjoy!!
