Book Description

Gnomologia is a book best suited to be kept on a coffee table and strives to explain many gnomological expressions. It comes from an ancient Greek word, known to have been used by Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Hippocrates and others.

It was a popular literary genre in the Middle Ages and Late Antiquity.

In Simplified English: Word/s used to convey something other than the true meaning of the word/s.

Does that ‘tickle your fancy’?

The book is written primarily for teenagers about to join the world of work and for anyone else who may be interested in learning more about the English language. Packed with wit, wisdom, and a dash of nostalgia, Gnomologia is a brilliant conversation-starter and a vital key to the heart of British vernacular.

This book has been written by a widower, born in 1942, who is also registered disabled (war pensioner) and lives alone.

David Jackson spent 40 years in the RAF with 18 postings, six overseas. Whilst in the service of the Queen, he has been spat at, stoned and shot at. In the latter part of his service career, he wrote and self-edited 11 NATO Interoperability publications.

He then went into property development, mostly converting old barns and tumbledown wrecks into desirable residences.

After retirement, he had three books published, with this one being the fourth.
