  As a writer, I research and read extensively. I recently came across this book online and my first thought was, like many things, how did we get on without it? I purchased a copy through Amazon earlier this month and read it with interest having wondered in the past what it involves taking your beloved dog on holiday with you. Although a fairly straight forward process, it did involve some digging in various government websites to find and extricate appropriate information, which, to put it politely, leaves you wanting to take up watching paint dry as a sport. Enter Poochtraveller by Claire L Templeton. Not only does Claire succinctly explain all the necessary ‘paperwork’ required, to avoid falling foul of the authorities, she does it with aplomb, using her many years experience travelling abroad with her dog Snowy. At no point does the relevant, detailed and well structured information become overpowering, as it is given in small doses throughout the book with recap at the end of chapters. The photos add warmth and a hidden humour to the book, showing that Snowy is both cute and relaxed. They also add something more: because of the care and attention taken in terms of composition, they show the beauty and sophistication of the places she has visited, reinforcing the adage that a picture can paint a thousand words. I highly recommend.
