Book Description
This book contains true stories from Dr. Gürpınar’s travels to various parts of the world while he was an international civil servant at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). His career spanned over events such as Chernobyl (1986), attacks of 9/11 (2001) and Fukushima (2011) which all had a huge impact on nuclear safety and security. The reverberations of this impact were felt not only in the nuclear industry but also the public at large. His first visits to countries such as the USSR, Romania, Albania, Yugoslavia and China were during the 1980s when all of these countries had some kind of socialist/communist and totalitarian regime. He visited the Iraq of Saddam, Libya of Qaddafi, Romania of Çeausescu, North Korea of Kim Jong-il, Iran of Khomeini and Syria of Assad (the father).
This book is only a small sample of those experiences that he was not able to put in his travel reports, but which are worth remembering.
