Julian and Carolyn, once inseparable siblings from the quaint village of Lower Darston, were torn apart by tragedy. Orphaned at a young age and separated by fate, they each carved out successful lives in the bustling south of England. But the past has a way of beckoning, and when a coach holiday offers a chance to revisit their childhood home, they’re drawn back to the village that holds both cherished memories and haunting shadows.

Upon their return, the siblings are plunged into a mystery that spans generations. With the help of the village’s astute chief librarian, they uncover dark secrets about their ancestors’ involvement in the family bank, a legacy mired in scandal, and a long-lost relative who vanished under mysterious circumstances. As they delve deeper, they unravel a web of blackmail, intimidation, and even murder that tainted their family’s name.

But as the pieces of the puzzle begin to fit together, they discover that the key to their family’s redemption might lie with a long-lost great uncle, George, who was cast out and disinherited. With the aid of a skilled genealogist, Julian and Carolyn embark on a quest to find the truth, heal old wounds, and reclaim their family’s honour in the heart of Lower Darston.

The Author, A.D. Emery, left secondary school without any academic qualifications. However, whilst playing in a band for some years, he attended evening classes, eventually achieving a BSc in Physics. He started working in engineering, then moved into electromagnetic research, which led him into computer programming. He now lives with his wife, in South Lincolnshire. His children have left home and now live in various parts of the country. Although, the three youngest Grand Children live close, and he enjoys their visits. A passion for writing, despite dyslexia, developed in later years.
