Book Description

This book is an essential guide for archers looking to refine their technique, enhance their performance, and take on new challenges in the world of archery. Whether you’re exploring different disciplines or overcoming obstacles along the way, this resource offers practical advice and expert insights.

Inside, you’ll find sections on:

– Different types of bows beyond those used in initial training, including bow dynamics.
– Various competition formats such as Field, 3D, and Clout Archery.
– Guidance for specific groups, including women in archery, archers with disabilities, and those returning after illness or injury.
– Support for coaches, as well as a dedicated chapter for self-coaching when a trainer isn’t available.
– Mindfulness techniques to improve focus and performance.
– Practical advice for navigating competitions, including avoiding clashes with judges and fellow archers.

Additionally, the book features a helpful glossary, links to archery websites, suppliers, and facilities, and a comprehensive appendix providing British Sign Language (BSL) assistance for working or shooting with hearing-impaired archers.

An invaluable companion for archers at all levels, this book will help you grow, adapt, and thrive in your archery journey.

Ben Hastings is an Archery GB Level 2 licensed coach and Archery GB Competition Judge. He is a member and senior coach of one of the oldest archery clubs in England, having been established in 1870. Ben runs and coaches beginners’ courses and provides further coaching to all ages and abilities, from ten years old up to eighty (and beyond!). He has coached at local club level as well as independently on a one-to-one basis, and at schools’ and universities’ clubs. His students are raw beginners up to Grand Master Bowman standard and have competed at all levels except the Olympics – but there is still time! He now regularly shoots longbow, compound and recurve target archery.
