Born and bred in New Zealand’s subtropical north, Lynda Marra spent her childhood mostly in a secret companionship with whispering beaches and friendly trees, her elusiveness tolerated by rock-n-roll teenage parents.
In the South Island, her adult life still resonates with nature’s mystery: bright stars, roaring surf, braided rivers and surreal clouds.
Several years of studying illustration and graphic design have enabled her to express experiences of family life, gardening, sorrow and whimsy in ever-present notebooks and stories.
Touching little illustrated poem, perfect length for a bedtime story. The illustrations remind us of our connection to the natural world, so the words never need say so. The beauty and transience of autumn is handled with skill and care, ending as the leaves are "taken into Earth's gentle fold." I already know the kids will love the artwork and the story will build resilience without them even knowing.
