Book Description

Ria is nineteen when she joins a peaceful protest at her university – naïve, disconnected from the realities of her country, and unaware of the price others have already paid for defiance. But the world she thought she knew unravels piece by piece. Taken alongside her mother and sister, she is thrown into the hands of a mercenary with a vendetta, one who believes Ria’s family is tied to the very forces she seeks to destroy.

When Ria wakes up in a place she doesn’t recognize, with no memory of how she got there, the past is a void waiting to be filled. Strangers tell her what she has survived, but the truth is more than just lost memories – it is something darker, something that refuses to stay forgotten. And when the past finally catches up with her, Ria will be forced to make an impossible choice: to seek justice in a world that offers none, or to let go before it consumes her.

The Slaying of Souls is a gripping and emotionally charged story of survival, identity, and the unseen forces that shape us – one wound, one loss, one vanished piece at a time.

Teresa Murray spent over two decades in humanitarian aid, working in some of the world’s most volatile regions. Specialising in populations affected by violence, armed conflict, and displacement, she has led responses to crises and advocated fiercely for those caught in cycles of conflict and abuse. She also holds postgraduate qualifications in mental health in situations of violence.

Drawing on both professional and deeply personal experiences, Murray wrote The Slaying of Souls to confront prevailing narratives and illuminate the raw realities of violence, exile, and survival. Beyond writing, she is a social impact entrepreneur and activist, leading projects that challenge violence, social injustice, and the trauma they leave behind.

When not immersed in her work, she can often be found on two wheels, indulging her love of motorcycles, or seeking solace in the wild. The Slaying of Souls is her debut novel.
