When the Fates reveal themselves to Circe, the great witch of Aeaea, they tell her of a war that will rage amongst the Olympians and destroy all of Greece. She alone is given a choice: bring forth a child that would be outside of fate and save the world, or not… she called him Nicos.

Nicos, hidden away from the sight of Gods, is raised unaware of their role in things to come, but when the Oracle of Delphi is killed for speaking about a dangerous witch, everything he knows must change. Leaving the only home they have ever known, Nicos sets out on his own odyssey to develop his witchcraft and discover more about the beings that haunt his dreams. Nicos must face a world of Gods, monsters and men in an effort to save them all.

Embark on a new myth about the witches of Greece, full of heart, intrigue, betrayal and self-discovery.

I'm halfway through The Son of Circe and I'm completely hooked! Hemingway’s fresh take on Greek myth is both engaging and rich in detail, creating a world that's magical and deeply spiritual. The story effortlessly blends heartwarming moments with heartbreaking twists, making Nicos’s journey feel both epic and very relatable. I can’t wait to see what unfolds in the rest of this wonderful adventure.

A new take on a familiar world of magic and gods with queerness naturally woven in. What a brilliant new take on the familiar world of magic and the Greek gods - mixing stories old and new and retelling myths that are maybe forgotten. I really enjoy the setup of Volume 1, introducing all the characters and falling in love with them from the start. Weaving in a queer love story to this world feels effortless - I only wish I had this story growing up. The whole thing feels incredibly cinematic with beautiful imagery, but leaving plenty for the imagination to run wild. I'll be reading this again.

What a fun read! This is a very fresh and creative story set in the world of Greek mythology – it’s a fast-paced tale with plenty of twists and turns. It weaves lesser-known myths into the story, while giving a fresh perspective on ones that might be familiar. The opening chapters have a really captivating portrayal of Circe, and also sets up a prophecy that sets the story in motion. The story set up is a pretty epic one about a war between the Gods, but the heart of the story is Circe’s fourth son, Nicos, who is raised hidden away from the Gods because of his prophesied role in the upcoming war. He’s portrayed as kind and decent, but also with a bit of fire to him! There’s definitely elements of the ‘hero’s journey’ here, but with plenty of fresh twists that kept me reading, and the emotional connections between the characters were a real highlight of the book. But I also loved the epic confrontations between the Gods scattered through the story! There’s also the beginning of a slow-burn gay romance that adds some intrigue, and in the end the stage is set and battle lines are drawn for a huge conflict. It’s a great setup for the series, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next! I was a big fan of ‘The Son of Achilles’ and ‘Circe’ by Madeline Miller, and this story definitely sits nicely alongside these!
