Every day, like the pigeons it’s famous for, Saint Mark’s Square is flocked by tourists, visitors from every corner of the world, all desperate to indulge in the ancient city of Venice’s flamboyant history, with its enchanting maze of cobble-stoned alleyways and romantic winding canals, dappled with shiny gondolas; naïve tourists, oblivious that their days were numbered as Venice floated along a path to destruction. The apocalypse was nigh. Only three days to go. Natural forces had been released. Already the weather had changed. The humidity was oppressive. Venomous storms brewed. Dark forces stirred. Hidden behind the walls of Saint Mark’s Basilica, a ‘brotherhood’ of priests, driven by the insane demands of their Holy Father, had arisen to take revenge upon the invasion of tourists.

Dianah Chorlton was born in Adelaide, South Australia. She now lives with her English-born husband, Robert, along the picturesque coastline of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Practising as a Natural Therapist, she conducts her healing treatments from home to a faithful following of clientele.

Really enjoyed this book! Got me in - careful and detailed descriptions of churches, palaces, secret beaches, personalities etc are very very good. Could almost smell it!! An interesting and great read.

Dianah’s Chorlton has written a book rich in the description which does Venice justice. The reader learns a lot about this beautiful city and it is clear that she is well-acquainted with it. The characters have their own secrets which we discover throughout the novel. The story brings the 3 levels (church and the brotherhood, the city, and its tourists) together in an exciting, climactic ending and leaves the readers to draw their own symbolism.

Wow! What a read this book was for me. Sometimes I wanted to put it down because it just too in-depth for my liking. (Especially at this current time regarding trusted priests and innocent boys.) But at other times I just couldn't put it down because I felt it just had to get better, and it did.

  • DAVE MARTIN

Ms Chorlton has captured the mayhem and tension created by the Brotherhood in the ancient city of Venice perfectly and in a very descriptive way.
The ending brings chaos to the characters and the beautiful city and has a very realistic feel. A great read and am looking forward to her next book.

The Vanishing of Venise touches on some of the dark things that happen in life. I read it quickly, I wanted to know what happened to one of the characters who was real for me.

Dianah Chorlton's characters became real, I found myself pondering on whether I would have killed off Jason if I was the author, and I won't spoil it for you by telling you if Dianah died. This book reminded me of my strict Catholic schooling with nun's and their God who punished the sins, so for me, it was about feelings, and so I will remember reading it.

If you have been to Venice you will be able to visualize many places in this book. If you have not been to this unique one of its kind city, then I urge you to see it before it may disappear. 'The Vanishing of Venice' is a collage of many layers of story": the tourists, the church and priests, the Gondoliers each have a story, which then becomes entwined in each other. It is a galloping romp. Once you begin reading you may find it hard to put down as the story rolls along and gathers speed just like a tsunami. Dianah Chorlton knows how to capture her audience and keep them riveted until the end.

One wonders what exciting thing is going to happen next in this book - I read it really quickly. A great read!

Interesting characters. Good plot development. Keeps you on your toes. Been to Venice and enjoyed the connection. Looking forward to a follow-up book from Dianah Chorlton.

The Vanishing of Venice is certainly an imaginative page turner. Dianah’s vivid imagination captures her reader as well as the many big-personality characters drawing you into the layers of the story, eventually culminating in the apocalypse. The small detail of linking the ‘bird’s eye view’ at the beginning and the end are cleverly crafted. Dianah drew on current world issues such as climate change and sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in an interestingly entwined way. Having been to Venice several times I felt Dianah brought it all back to me and I wonder how I’ll feel if given the chance to visit again. Will I be seeing St Mark’s Square in a different way!

Saint Mark's Bascilica is no sanctuary for the hedonistic tourists as they face the curses of a demonic Priest and the wrath of nature........
An exciting story which leads to a cataclysmic finale orchestrated by the mad rantings of Father Rodero, and the "Brotherhood."

  • Nigel Williams

Fast paced and action packed, this novel takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of Venice. No one is spared an intense scrutiny.
Well worth a read, and you'll find it hard to put down as you become eager to discover what happens at each twist and turn.

This fast paced book quickly got me on board. A colourful story told well, it has combinations of descriptive prose, dramatic events, raunchy relationships, religious intrigue, depravity, murder and mayhem, and an inevitable cataclysmic ending. Some may find parts of the story uncomfortable, but like it or not it the seedier aspects of the real world around us are too similar. Hopefully, our world will be spared events like those of the ending.

  • Julie Powers

What a journey, many characters and personalities. Great start from a bird's eye view. Didn't know how it was going to end. Well done Dianah.

  • Linda T

In her book, The Vanishing of Venice Dianah Chorlton creates artful imagery. Set against the vibrant backdrop of bustling Venice, the threat of global warming and dark spiritual forces, she weaves a rich, descriptive tapestry around the lives of the diverse characters, bringing them to life.
There are many twists, turns and surprises as the plot deepens, culminating in a catastrophic conclusion.
You will not be bored with this fast-paced book!

What a fabulous read, very exciting, I thoroughly enjoyed its many characters with very different lives, I didn’t expect that ending, all good, well done Dianah.

  • Robynne

A good descriptive tale set in the glorious city of Venice, about real issues with believable characters but with an ominous solution. I loved the storyline, the pace of the book, and mostly I loved the characters in the book. In fact, I find myself thinking about them long after I finished reading. I think this book would convert well into a great movie.

  • John Rickard

Great read. Once I started I couldn't put it down. Erotic, adventurous with interesting characters and a plot racing to its climatic conclusion.
Very enjoyable read. One complaint...not long enough. :-)

  • Glen Harris

Good easy read. Interesting characters all coming together in Venice at the same time. Keeps you guessing right up to near the end . Highly recommend.
