Dreams

Dreams is inspired by symbolist poetry and by the medieval summa which tried to encapsulate the entire world in its pages. The poems do not need to be understood but should be viewed as abstract art in which one tries, always unsuccessfully, to put infinite riches in a little room. Despite its size it is like a book of a hundred pages with miniscule paintings on the margins of every page. The longer one looks at a painting the larger it becomes and reveals more and more so that one hardly has to read the words. Dreams is a confused memory of the Gesamtkunstwerk which has had many names: the sacred book of the arts, the engulfed cathedral, the interior castle, the stone lyre.

Dionysian Pessimist

Dionysian pessimism: a love of fate, going through life with unbridled joy, finding beauty in even the most brutal parts of life.

Following Nietzsche’s call for an unconditional love of life and an appreciation for its aesthetic value, these poems are an attempt at finding the beauty in all life has to offer, and an effort at embracing even its most painful moments.

Inspired by the stunning visual landscape and sea views from Christabel Lancing’s family cottage in South Devon, Beside a Stranger is her debut poetry collection. It reflects her personal experiences of love and loss; of pain, longing, and joy, exploring some paradoxical aspects of isolation and connection.

The poem Beside a Stranger originated from the 9/11 tragedy and its anniversaries—a reminder and insight into the emotions of those who died alongside people they’d never met. It is a spirit-driven memory, mirroring events and narrating, in parallel themes, the love for someone you have never met.

I want to retain the warmth you’ve inserted to my flesh,

The rousing and rather boiling feeling I can’t undo from my blood.

Let me take it to every life to come,

Apricity is mainly a personal love letter but it’s also about finding your role model; someone who’s so incredibly kind and clever that, although they can never be a part of your life, you will forever look up to them as the person who once changed you for the better.

There are four processes, in which I have travelled the journey from the beginning, and which can be a guide for others to emulate…

Reflection, Reconnection, Strength and Growth, and, finally, Change and Transition.

The Creative Spirit is the bridge to becoming connected to the Spirit of the Earth once more.

And when we have reconnected to Mother Nature, then we are able to heal our inner nature and fulfil our true purpose.

Is it an insecurity or a social disability?

But monsters are not invincible

It is messy and scary and unpredictable

Heartfelt Poems

I wrote these poems to express my feelings. However, they soon became an emotional journey of enlightenment that helped me discover myself and how I saw life. Through my poetry I wanted to show how we can help others and also appreciate those who help us and those whose love we share.

My biggest inspiration was the love of my family and God and a desire to show that by acts of kindness and love we can help to improve other people’s lives by following God’s simple way of living, something I only recently discovered and which transformed the way I see life.

A Bardic Melange

As a follow up to the debut collection entitled Assorted Musings, A Bardic Melange tackles various themes incorporating humour, limericks, solemnity and the author’s unique take on observed situations and experiences, some of which may resonate with the reader. Indeed, some offerings are personal and meaningful to the author who has no qualms about sharing his feelings and thoughts.

It is hoped that you will enjoy the author’s writings and take something away in terms of stimulating food for thought! As you will deduce, it is far removed from romantic poetry. Rather, it is very much contemporary verse written for today. Do enjoy at your leisure.
