Shaakira Ally Wins Two Prestigious Awards for ‘I Swear by Azania’

Shaakira Ally, author of the historical book ‘I Swear by Azania’, has been honoured with two prestigious awards: the UAE's Next Mastermind Award for Outstanding Author and the Golden Awards International Author Award. She expressed deep gratitude for this recognition. 

I Swear by Azania is an influential novel set in post-apartheid South Africa. The story revolves around a young girl named Azania, who has pseudoachondroplasia. After her mother commits suicide, Azania is sent to live with her racist aunt, where she endures abuse, misery, and neglect. The novel examines the cruel, racist, and discriminatory legacy of Apartheid that continues to live on. Grab your copy here.  

Shaakira Ally is a poet and spoken word artist; she holds a bachelor's in education from the University of Johannesburg. Her work addresses gender-based violence, mental health, and discrimination. Shaakira is the author of A Pariah’s Heartbreak, a book about a trauma survivor, and I Swear by Azania is her debut novel.
