Attend the local bookstore in Malvern, as this little gem of a store is holding a huge range of events in the next few weeks, and in the first few days of March they are hosting the fantastic Phil Barnes who will be there signing copies of his new novel 'My Teacher's a Spy!'. This brilliant children's book is certainly one to grab when you can. Phil Barnes and Austin Macauley are also both donating some of the sales to the MND Association, a charity helping those suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. It always creates a bit of a stir when a new teacher starts school, especially when that teacher is young and handsome, like Mr Gunning. But why does he have an expensive car? And is he really who he seems? Chloe, Jessica, Kelly and Andrew think not and when Andrew claims he is sure Mr Gunning is a spy the gang just have to find out if that is the case. In a crime thriller for young readers Phil Barnes creates in My Teacher's a Spy! four children who start out simply trying to find out if their suspicions are true but who rapidly discover that the murky waters of intrigue are deeper than they thought. And when Andrew goes missing the girls must pull together, fight their tears and continue their detective course as one by one they, too, succumb to the criminal ... whoever he or she is.
First of all, a big thank you to WHSmith Halesowen for helping to coordinate this event. Amanda Kehoe, the very popular author of 'TJ and his Wheelable Chair' is attending a reading and Q&A at Lightwoods Primary School, where she will talk to the whole school and provide some colouring sheets so the children can have a go at illustrating the book themselves. This is a guaranteed day of fun. TJ cannot walk or talk, but he still loves to listen and play with his friends. Join him as he shows that disabilities are no barrier to a happy and fulfilling life...
Belsize Community Library is offering a very exciting opportunity. Every child in the area is invited down to hear Stewart Martin Johnson read from his newly published and wonderfully illustrated book 'Bad News Belinda'. The kids will then engage in some craft activities where they can learn and watch Stewart Martin Johnson work his magic and draw some exciting characters, and then have a go at illustrating themselves. When Aunt Belinda comes to stay, the sun disappears and the sky turns grey. She never laughs and we cannot play, we have to hide our sweets away! Help us get Aunt Belinda out, So we can sing and dance and shout!
