Book Description

Who knew what the wide-mouthed seven-year-old you see before you would go on to encounter as an adult? Can any of us be fully prepared for the life that we are to embark upon? How much of this is in our control or predestined? This is not just one woman’s story of how she arrived at 50, at a crossroads which proved crucial. It is your story too.If you have ever experienced any form of battle with mental health, physical illness, trauma or relationships, then this book is yours too.It is quite simply a story of how love can prevail, how labour must not define or crush us and how loss can be a catalyst for change. This is a book ‘half full’, not a book ‘half empty’, and offers to be your friend as you travel on your own journey.

Joanna Greaves wanted to write at 18. At 51, it happened. She picked up her pen to write her mum’s eulogy and was encouraged by the same English teacher she had at 16, who said, “You have to keep writing!” So indeed she has!

At this turning point of her life, she ‘closed the curtain’ on a 29-year teaching career to commit herself to achieving her lifetime’s ambition. Attending a short 6-hour writing course, then establishing with a friend her own writing group, which she leads weekly in her hometown of Belper, Derbyshire, has allowed her to find her written voice once more.

Her aim is to reach readers who have similar life experiences and wish to read a message of hope and renewal, and also to support the younger versions of herself who may be fighting those same battles and need a glimmer of hope, a sprinkle of joy and a burst of optimism.
