These Parrot Antics are funny, playful, and bursting with color.

Sir Reginald Raucous Van Reek seizes every opportunity to perform for the gallery, reveling in the spotlight. In his world, pride, prejudice, and presumption help him plunder his way through life, while hard knocks roll off him like water off a duck’s back.

Despite his mischievous deeds, he steals our hearts with his playful antics, brought to life through the rhythm of rhyming fun.

But does this self-proclaimed sage ever learn anything from his roguish rascality?

Sally Wright’s passion for writing illustrated poetry has been fine-tuned over the years through instruction in creative writing, art and music performance. Trained in these disciplines, the author believes that the world of rhythm, rhyme and humour can enliven the heart and mind of any child, while personification, used in fun, can be turned into moral instruction, to fashion worthy ideals in growing minds.

The author believes the future of human progress needs the creative power and enthusiasm of the next generation. Therefore, the love of reading is considered a necessary constituent in developing social, moral and personal expansion.

Parrot Antics is a wholesome story of a cheeky little parrot and his adventures. I imagined myself seeing all his antics happening in front of me, and thought what a fabulous job Sally has done. The illustrations are beautifully crafted. The only thing I will note is that some of the wording in the book is perhaps words that children may not understand and may require an explanation. Other than that, the story is a joy to read and shows a great fondness for parrots. Looking forward to Part Two!

Parrot Antics is a charming and cheeky poem about a rapscallion parrot, Sir Reginald Raucous van Reek, with a rather large ego. The reader follows his journey of mistakes, to which he is rather oblivious, awaiting to see how many times he will need to eat humble pie and if any learning will occur! Sally has created a cleverly crafted poem which engages the reader on a sensory journey of fabulous rhythm and rhyme, extending vocabulary with superbly chosen words. The poem dives deep into morals, making the reader think about their behaviour while trying to decide on the fate of Sir van Reek. Sally’s beautiful illustrations complement her poem and immerse the reader deeper. It is a perfect read-aloud piece for children and adults alike.

What a fun filled refreshing read. It is such a joy to see the English language used so beautifully and enchantingly and in a way that will capture the attention of the youngest ones sitting on a parents lap to the older readers who enjoy reading on their own. The artwork compliments the story perfectly and the anticipation in turning each page is exciting and rewarding. All kudos to the author, her imagination, artistic abilities and use of words in this medium is in my opinion brillant. Ten out of ten, I loved it.
