Hayley grew up in Zimbabwe, spending many holidays in the bush with her family. After she qualified as a teacher, she lived in England for a few years and spent holidays exploring Europe. She now lives in South Africa near the ocean, with her husband, son and dogs. She still loves holidays in the bush but also enjoys frequent walks on the beach and in the mountains nearby.
The Mifbunkling Snark is a truly enchanting little story, full of heart and gentle imagination. The young boy at the centre of the tale feels wonderfully real and easy for little readers to connect with, while the Snark itself is brought to life as a beautifully unique and comforting character. What makes this book so special is the way it takes something that could feel big or overwhelming and transforms it into something soft, magical, and completely safe. It turns worry into wonder. My three-year-old is completely captivated and now has a nightly ritual of searching for his Snark before bed – like a little treasure hunt before sleep. The illustrations are visually delightful, and the story is simple yet carefully crafted, with real thought behind every page. A magical bedtime read that I would recommend to any family looking for a story that soothes, reassures, and sparks a child’s imagination.
