Book Description

Tell me again why we’re doing this?

John, Soul ticked, Where’s your sense of adventure? A journey is its own reward.

I scoffed, There better be cake. I demand a cake after all the effort of putting up with you.

He feigned insult. I’ll have you know that most people are delighted to speak to me.

I laughed; I am most people!

Oh pish posh, he countered. Now stop sulking and let’s get going; you have a message to deliver.

I wondered how many people would care for the letter I carry. Would I be able to deliver my message, or would I get lost in these ill-forsaken roads of destiny? What a funny word that is. And how cruel it is to…

I winced away from the memory as I set about walking without thinking. Of course… where was I?

John? Soul’s familiar voice echoed through my skull…

Yes… that’s how we started it.

“Memory fades, and with them our words too lose all value.”

– Ruviti D’Alessar

John Volk Cianden was never meant to be remembered. His contribution to history is a mere footnote.

If fate hadn’t been so curiously capricious, John would have lived, loved, longed, and eventually died a farmer.

The body to a soul who doesn’t deserve him

It was fate, wasn’t it? Some ploy of the Dreamers to twist our path until we were something more—or perhaps… something less than we wanted.

And though the people may let our story slip through the fingers of what is and what shouldn’t.

I won’t. I remember. I always will.

– Soul

"Perhaps it's the job of the Soul to remind the body what it does." I don't finish books anymore. Life's busy and most books just don't pull me in like they used to. But this one? Even when I put it down I couldn't stop thinking about it and I always wanted to pick it back up. The writing is sharp and deliberate. Every detail matters. Every character description connects to something later. You'll find yourself paging back, catching things you missed, realizing how perfectly the author laid the groundwork. The premise alone is compelling: John walks alongside his own Soul as a separate being. But it's what the author does with this concept that makes it brilliant. The morality play between characters, the internal conflict, the philosophical weight of choices and consequences. It all unfolds through mystery, danger and pacing that doesn't let up. You're unraveling the mind games right alongside John, connecting dots, second guessing, thinking. This is fantasy that feels film worthy with action scenes that hit and suspense that keeps you hooked. It is also a book that made me reflect, really reflect, on deeper questions. If you're tired of recycled fantasy tropes or books that are all surface, this is something different. It's got depth without being unsettling, romance without being a soap opera and action without losing its soul. If you used to love reading but haven't found that book in a while, this might be it.

The Soul Walker by John of Cianden is a captivating new fantasy adventure that pulls you in from the very first page, immersing you in a world brimming with magic, mystery, and danger. The author skillfully crafts an enchanting setting filled with magical maps, living forests, and ancient elven architecture right from the get-go. It feels expansive yet grounded, striking a delightful balance between awe and suspense. What truly makes this book shine is its unforgettable duo: John and his ever-loyal companion, Soul. Their witty banter sharp, clever, and emotionally genuine gives the story its unique voice. John’s relatable vulnerabilities, paired with Soul’s sarcastic quips, create a dynamic that’s both entertaining and deeply resonant, adding heart and humor to the fantastical elements. ⚫️The supporting characters further enrich the narrative. Figures like the towering Lynian warrior Shock, the fierce and mysterious Nynette, the eerie Scythe, and the frail yet formidable Ruviti each bring their own charm and intrigue. Through them, readers catch glimpses of the vastness and hidden politics of Uldeat and the Binded, while John’s early training sequences deliver action, tension, and surprising emotional depth. In summary, The Soul Walker is a wonderfully imaginative kickoff to what promises to be an unforgettable series. With strong character chemistry, cinematic worldbuilding, and a seamless mix of humor and high stakes, it’s a fantasy adventure that will keep you hooked from the very first page. A compelling, original, and thoroughly enjoyable read perfect for fans seeking something fresh in the genre. Happy reading

This was a fascinating story of a guy and his Soul who are thrust into a dangerous adventure. It is at times dark, serious, funny and action-packed, making for a very enjoyable read with twists and turns and mysteries to keep the reader guessing. I enjoyed how it cleverly combined elements of fantasy, sci-fi and even a dash of dystopia. While the complex world-building might not be at a Brandon Sanderson level, it is a very unique and engaging setting. I look forward to the exciting stories this author produces next...and hopefully a sequel!

A skillfully written book, brimming with striking descriptive language and a beautiful ability to paint with words. As an avid reader since my youth, I can honestly say this book is unlike any other that I have read. The storyline is incredibly fast paced and multifaceted and hard to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction between the characters. I will definitely be on the lookout for follow-up books from this promising and creative new author.
