I am Willow, welcome to the woods!

This place will change your whole childhood.

The woods are not just woods, you’ll see.

The woods set your imagination free.

Zooming helicopters! Mud monsters! Magical spiders!

Join Willow in the woods to see how her wild adventures unfold.

Kirsty Howarth lives in a small village in North-West Leicestershire with her family, Chris (Partner), Ethan (son) and Poppy (daughter). Her love of the outdoors and her young children have inspired the story of Willow’s Wood.

Growing up in an old mining town in the midlands that backed onto, wasteland, woods,  fields, and meadows; Kirsty has fond memories of adventure filled days with her siblings and friends.

Every day was an adventure and full of imagination and is something she wishes and hopes for, not only her own children, but for every child growing up.

Last week we had a special visitor in the nursery setting. Kirsty Howarth came into setting to read her book "Willows Wood" to the children and staff. The children really enjoyed listening to the story, and then joining in with making leave tree masks, leave and wood tuff trays afterwards. Thank you for coming and making the experience one for the children and us to remember!

Willow’s Wood by Kirsty Howarth is an absolute gem of a book that swept me away into its magical world from the very first page. My children both love it. Howarth’s writing is beautifully descriptive, painting vivid images of the enchanting forest and its rich, mysterious characters. The story masterfully weaves themes of nature, adventure, creative play and childhood imagination. Kirsty Howarth has a unique gift for storytelling, crafting a tale that feels timeless yet refreshingly original. I would highly recommend this book to any family. If you’re looking for a captivating read, Willow’s Wood is the perfect choice. A true 5-star treasure!

connecting us parents with our own childhood memories and our inner child (who didn't go exploring in the woods in the last century?!). My girls (4 and 6) both like the book and they can definitely relate to Willow's experience, as they went to a forest school pre-school and love the outdoors. I think it would make children who haven't got a strong connection with nature curious, wanting to explore. I think it's an affirming story for neurodivergent, highly sensitive and / or introverted children, who like playing on their own or observe the world around them. Willow is quite content on her own in this story... she's not alone, because she's part of the environment... she's free. She's also full of fun ideas and very creative. This book acknowledges and celebrates these traits beautifully.
