David P Perlmutter lives in Hertfordshire, is the proud father of four children and has one grandson. David is very close to his large family. He is also a Campaigns Ambassador for Cancer Research UK.
David's second novel Five Weeks catalogues a trip during which he was almost left for dead in a Pennsylvanian wood.
Reading Wrong Place Wrong Time left me in a bit of a quandary. Did the main character get his just desserts? Was the ending what I wanted it to be? Well, to be honest, that is neither here nor there, as Wrong Place Wrong Time is a true story, and as a result, only had one possible ending. Whether it's the one that the reader desires is not up for questioning. This book intrigued me from the moment I read about it through social media. I deliberately shied away from scanning other numerous reviews of the author's work as (a) the real David is an extremely affable chap (which is not something that can always be said for the 'character' David - but then who's perfect in life?) and (b) I like to make my own decisions. I'm glad I did as now I see a debate rages as to whether this book is believable or not. For me, it is. And a gripping read. At times I didn't understand the lead character's actions as he faces his hideous journey into a hellish time in Spain - why did he do this? - why would he do that? - but again, I think that is truly apt and spot on for what most of us do in life. No-one is perfect. We can all regret doing something and the subsequent consequences that occur as a result. No spoilers here from me as I believe this a tale which should be read. David's words transport you perfectly along his somewhat bumpy and gritty ride and even though maybe you shouldn't always be on his lead character's side (that being the real David of course) I found I did sympathise with him. I wished him well despite not always wishing he'd followed a certain path. I would recommend Wrong Place Wrong Time quite happily. David is skilled at what he does with his writing, and also with his tireless and varied marketing. I salute his story, I salute his words, I salute his ability to write what must been a most definitely soul-cleansing but also deeply harrowing story. After all, it was his. He's lived every word, and I'm glad I was able to now share it.
A book I read in two days, yes one of those books you can’t put down and when you finish the book you have a number of questions but without spoiling it for other readers you do wonder how no charges were ever brought against David or why the Spanish police or legal system have never done anything due to the serious charges that were brought against David. The ending was not what I expected as I thought David would have to clear his name and go through legal proceedings/court etc here in England or back in Spain but nothing.
As I've seen for myself so often in life, truth can be stranger than fiction. Were this a fictional book, I likely would have given up on the MC quite soon, him being so naive and impulsive; however, this is a true-life account of what the author experienced and the decisions he made. I found it an easy and entertaining read with good descriptions and frank honesty throughout. Some spelling hiccups let it down somewhat but not enough to seriously disrupt the flow of the read. The ending is well rounded and ties up loose ends. It held my attention all the way, and right up until the end, you didn't know how it would all turn out. I can see why someone has snapped up the film rights to this book. I shall keep an eye out for more from this author.
Wrong Place Wrong Time is a story about how he lost his job as an up-and-coming estate agent followed by a trip to Marbella, and the decision he made whilst being out there had nearly cost his life. I had the pleasure of listening to his audio book recently and was impressed with how these real life events were dramatised. I had to keep reminding myself that it was not fiction and that its not only someone’s life, but someone who I have had the pleasure in knowing. This audio book accompanied me many times on my school runs and shopping trips which meant I sailed through it. David came up against some interest characters in this book. Rosa I liked, she brought beauty and peace into the narrative by having his back and just being sweet and oblivious to his struggles. Another favourite of mine was the Son of Elvis; favourite in a peculiar and funny sort of way. I won’t explain any further about Elvis, you’ll have to read the book to find out. I also loved the way he described his Mum and how her warm voice would bring joy to him whenever they spoke on the phone, and how her voice reminded him of the Queen. My not so favourites characters were the dodgy journalist, the hotel porter and the brothers who ran the bar along with a few other jealous and horrid types who took pleasure in challenging David physically and mentally. David’s story has captured the interest of many and tugged a few hearts strings as readers are offered a snapshot into his early life as a twenty-seven year old. While listening to this story and the chapters played on, I wondered how much could one person take and especially at such a young age? Things just went from bad to worse. But as the saying goes, what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. I believe David’s time in Marbella had done just that, and by turning this horrific event into a book that he is able to share with the world and the shelves of Waterstones branches up and down the country, is testament to that. If you read this you would have no choice but want to root for David, especially towards the end when faced with yet another the grueling task of leaving his apartment and making an his way back home. Wrong Place Wrong Time is a gripping, beautifully written, page-turning and surprisingly a laugh out loud read followed by moments of deep emotion. Look out for more MYWAY books coming soon by this author.
Third time I’ve read Wrong Place Wrong Time, and it gets better every time! Surely a movie has to be made!
Wrong Place Wrong Time grips you from first page and reels you in so completely that you really can’t put it down until the very last page. David tells his tale with incredible honesty and his writing style is such that you journey to Marbella with him, living every moment alongside him as he stumbles from one disaster to another, sometimes of his own making, mostly due to really bad timing and some incredibly bad luck! This book has blockbuster movie written all over it!
This is one of the most gripping books I have read in a long time! The way it is written just kept me on the edge of my seat! Brilliant!
What can I say but wow! WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME had me on the edge of my seat! This would make a top movie!
OMG! What a book! literally read it in one sitting. I was on the edge of my seat throughout! This has got to be a film! Can't wait to read Five Weeks! 5 stars are not enough! I say 10!
Read Wrong Place Wrong Time over two days.
What a gripping page turner.
Highly recommend
Excellent book - read it on holiday appropriately in Marbella - couldn't put it down - highly recommended - great story !
This book deserves to be in book shops. I read this in two days and it was just brilliant! If I could give it more than 5* I would! Now to read FIVE WEEKS!
WOW You want reality in a book? This is the book for you.
Starting off with a change of job from being a real estate agent who lost his job, car and everything that went with it, including the money.
A change of life was called for and started as a light hearted ‘wander’ into Marbella, sea, sand and sex being the only thing to worry about. It is a down right gritty autobiographical account of making some wrong choices in a different country.
Its fast, its gut wrenching and almost makes you puke at the thought of some of the things he went through.
The lies he had to endure the betrayal and violence he had to just manage through were appalling, along with some of the conditions he had to live in.
Knowing he had the love and help of his family was the only thing that kept him going, a lot of us don’t have that.
“it’s only a mirror”
This might be a guy just telling his story but to be able to recall as much detail as he has in this book, it must be burnt into his mind for him to remember it as clearly and concisely as this.
Thank you for sharing this bold, scary part of your life.
Your mum was right you brought shame on her family but you went through more punishment than they would have ever given you.
A fantastic recollection of life in a hard place , you won't be disappointed , you are also ready to read 'Five Weeks' which IMHO is also ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A truly captivating story, as the author takes you on a journey to relive his past escapades. As it's a true story it makes it all the more gripping. There are times when you just want to shout out 'NO!' The writer lays bare his actions, and while some bad decisions were made, for the main part of the story he really ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Really well written, makes you want to not put the book down as you want to find out what happened next. My favourite book of the year so far, it may only be January but I'm confident that I will be saying the same thing still in December. I highly recommend.
I have read this book twice, it's that good. In fact, it gets better. One of the most edge of your seat reads I have had the pleasure in reading, and it's a true story. Has to be a movie!
"It was unsettling, the knowledge that a split second decision can completely change the course of someone's life........"
This was certainly a statement that represented David P. Perlmutter's true life account in "Wrong Place Wrong Time". So many wrongly made split second decisions that impacted on the rest of his life, especially when in the wrong place at the wrong time!!
This book is brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, I would highly recommend you try and read this in one sitting as it's very addictive.
All the way through this compelling read you feel you are with David every step of the way - from his everyday job in an estate agency to the unfortunate events that followed - feeling all his emotions from fear and guilt to shame and relief. There was so much build up of anticipation throughout, the fear and terror was palpable. As a parent of three teenage sons I'm now going to be dreading them taking their first holiday abroad with their mates!
Lots of varied characters make up this story some nice some not so nice, I particularly liked 'Son of Elvis' - what a great character he was. The harrowing account of the filthy, dark and dank police cells were very descriptive and I can't imagine the true horror David went through during those days with only orange peel to keep him company!
"Wrong Place Wrong Time" is a very exciting book with some cliffhanger moments leaving you wondering what will happen next and at times screaming at him 'don't do it!'
I would highly recommend you put this book on your to read list but perhaps best not read if you're on holiday in Spain.......
A high-octane roller coaster, movie material.
My first read by David P Perlmutter was ‘My Way Free - Trending on Twitter’, a hands on approach on how to market your book as an indie author filled with hands on techniques and real life advice. A no-nonsense book that delivers. It didn’t came to me as a surprise that Perlmutter kept his true, personal style when writing ‘Wrong Place Wrong Time.” You can only admire an author who can share so much of his personal life, gripping confessions and incredible sacrifice, with worldwide readers. This read is a roller coaster and it will keep you wanting to reach its end, fingers crossed for the protagonist! It would be interesting to see it made into a movie.
I was recommended this book and also seen it at my local Waterstones where I purchased the book and I'm so pleased that I became aware of this book as it is my BOOK OF THE YEAR so far and I have read many this year. I was gripped from the first page, I was taken in by he story and I was with the author right until the end. I can understand why this book is receiving many plaudits around the world.
I am now looking on Amazon to download his author books and can't wait to read them.
5/5*****
Wow, where do I start? reading this book made me want to shout at David but hug him at the same time! how could someone who seemed to have everything throw it all away with one very stupid mistake.
Then, just as you think he has got his life back on track he decides to go and be a hero. He ends up getting accused of arson and manslaughter! He's just the unluckiest guy in the world who really was in the wrong place at the wrong time!
It's very honest descriptions of his unfortunate events is what keeps you turning the pages and makes the book impossible to put down.
I am left with a lot of questions after finishing the book. what happened after he got back to London? Did he ever have to go back to Spain? Did he ever see Emma or Rosa again? this doesn't mean the book has a bad ending, it shows that David has really connected with his readers.
If you enjoy true stories about nice guys who make silly choices then this is the perfect book for you. Even if you don't normally read this type of book I encourage you to read this one, you will not be disappointed!
Like many reviews, I just couldn't put this book down. I finished in two days and have recommended this book to many. As I read, I had the picture in my mind. I would love to see this on the big screen or even a series on Netflix or TV. Thumbs up to the author and now onto his other books, Five Weeks and 24 Hours In New York.
I must say, I read Wrong Place Wrong Time in two sittings. Totally gripped. The way David wrote this book, I felt that I was with him on the journey, on the beach, the hotel fire and in jail. This would make such a great movie. Fantastic book. Now I will google David and check out his other books.
What can I say, but OMG. My heart was in my mouth from Page 1 until the final page, which I was sad to come too. I have read true stories before, but never imagined that I would feel part of the story as the way the author described. I read this in 3 days before work, at lunchtime, on my way home and at night, as I couldn't stop thinking about David, the author and the situations he got himself in. I have now loaned the book out to a work colleague and I'm sure it will be passed around the office. I have also noticed that there is a film being made. Well, I have my popcorn ready! Can't wait!
What a fantastic read! This book had me gripped from the first chapter and by far one of the best books I have read. Every chapter in this book makes you want to carry on and read the rest. I had so many questions throughout the book, but the title Wrong time the Wrong place is truly what this book is about. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
Hey David, I have just finished Wrong Place Wrong Time and it blew me away. I've never been to Marbella before, but your writing made me feel that I was there, on the beach, walking the streets, in the bars. Plus I have also read Five Weeks, another brilliant book. Can't wait for the movie Wrong Place Wrong Time.
I have just put this book down. I only received it as a birthday gift on Tuesday, it is now Friday. OMG! It felt like I was with David in Marbella. Totally hooked from the first moment in London and as he travelled to Marbella. My favourite book of the year so far and I have read many, so many. I understand that it is going to be made into a film, my ticket is booked. Just read this book, it will blow your mind.
I was recommended this book, and I can see why. I read this book in two sittings over the weekend and all I can say is, it had me gripped from the first word to the very last. What David went through was incredible and personally, I felt I was living the nightmare with him. I understand that a movie of the book is planned. I can't wait to see his story come to life on the big screen. I also understand that he has written other stories about his life, I for one, will be ordering them all. I'm his latest fan. Thank you David.
I've just finished Wrong Place Wrong Time and I can see why this book is being turned into a movie. From the get go, I was hooked until the very last word. It's not often I read in one sitting, but I just couldn't put this book down. Looking forward to watching the movie when it is released.
