Our esteemed author Andrew Rae joined Sara Troy for an hour-long audio and video interview on Self Discovery Wisdom. Released on 22 September 2026, the episode introduces his poetry collection Transcendence and the personal journey behind it.
The feature published alongside the interview looks at how Rae’s faith has changed throughout his life. He received his early religious education from Anglican monks but later lost his faith. He then became interested in Zen Buddhism. In later years, he found comfort in the traditions of the Anglican Church.
His poems speak about the wonder people feel in nature and the emotions that music, art, birth and loss can bring. Rae reflects on moments that help people pause and look beyond their daily concerns.
Published by Austin Macauley Publishers, the book also talks about the comfort found in church buildings, meditation and prayer. Its final section turns to the loneliness and uncertainty of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Rae was born in England and moved to South Africa at eight. He later studied quantum physics and mathematics at Cambridge. After working at British universities, he trained as an actor and performed in theatre productions.
