Our Author Belle Berroyer and her submission, “Learning the Language of Autism Through the Senses,” has been selected for broadcast on BBC Upload for BBC Essex. The piece will be featured during Thursday and Saturday evening programmes from 6 p.m. and will also be available through BBC Sounds. The appearance gives Belle an opportunity to share her thoughts on autism and communication with a wider audience.
Learning the Language of Autism is a book to understand the autistic experiences through the lens of sensory processing. It is written for parents and professionals alike and explores how the senses are interconnected and how sensory differences can physically manifest in autistic people. By translating behaviours that are often misunderstood into meaningful forms of communication, Belle offers some practical insights that can help readers identify more supportive and compassionate responses. The book presents behaviour as a unique language and encourages readers to seek solutions from the autistic person’s sensory perspective.
Born in Essex, Belle Berroyer began her career in early years development and education. Her understanding of autism deepened after the birth of her non-speaking autistic son following her move to mid-Wales in 2002. She has since written for magazines and media platforms on autism and sensory awareness for guidance.
