He emigrated to Australia in 1986 at the age of twenty-seven with his wife, Virginia and they have lived in the foothills of the Dandenongs mountain range for over thirty years. He has two children and now has a grandson, Hugo. He works as an osteopath and has his own practice. He also worked for more than thirty years as a university lecturer helping train student osteopaths specialising in the clinical teaching area.
One of his main interests is studying history and he has travelled to many historically significant sites in Europe and the Middle East. He also enjoys bike riding and ballroom dancing. He loved reading and making up stories for his children when they were young and is now rekindling that love with his grandson.
