Gavin Winter

Born in 1931, Gavin Winter was brought up in County Durham in a middle class family. Grammar school and Durham University gave him a good education and many sporting achievements, mainly in soccer and athletics.

National service from 1950 to 1952 provided experience with the parachute regiment in Egypt, a country at that time torn by division and terrorism which, perhaps, may have sown the early seeds of inspiration for The Matabi Contract.

Work in the iron and steel industry, and later the construction industry, gave him a suitable background to form his own company in 1977 from which he retired in 1996.

Married with two daughters, two step-sons and six grandchildren, he enjoys tennis, ballroom dancing, playing the piano and getting to grips with the garden.

The Matabi Contract is Gavin’s first novel. He is currently working on a sequel, chronicling the further exploits of Edward Steele and his companions, to be entitled The M’Basi Project.
