JJohn Furnes

I started out as a 3rd officer in this company, but made fast progress to 2nd and 1st officer. At this company, at the age of 30, I became Master on their product tankers, and followed up to do the same position on bulk ships and crude oil tankers. I was very much involved in planning and executions of maintenance work, and dry dock operations. I also spent 2 years as Superintendent looking after their new buildings at Mitsui Zosen, Chiba and Tamano. There I was in charge of the steel work and paint systems on the entire ship. The Bridge and Navigational instrumentation and all Safety installations were also my responsibility.
