John Martyn

John Martyn, head boy at Marlborough College and scholar at Cambridge, was promoted to a professorship at Melbourne University, and discovered an unknown manuscript, with 40 letters sent by Pope Gregory. Retiring in 2000, he became a Principal Fellow in the School of Historical Studies, buying a property on the Mornington Peninsula, writing books and reviewing many, giving occasional lectures at University and the Melbourne and Australian Clubs.
