The author was born and educated in London. He joined the Metropolitan Police Forensic Science Laboratory in 1966 and Studied Geology at Birkbeck College (nights) between 1968 and 1972. He joined a Cambridge-based private firm of Forensic Scientists & Engineers in 1984 and took early retirement in 2003.
