The author left school at 16 to start a joinery apprenticeship, and after 15 years pursued a career in a further education college teaching wood occupations to apprentices. After early retirement, he undertook the writing of several joinery books, and has now moved into children’s books of which this is the first. When not writing, most of his time is spent fishing and walking two spaniels, while still doing a little joinery when the occasion arises.
